The Silver Capped Bust Dime was minted in Philadelphia from 1809 to 1837. The Pre Civil War Era Silver coin was designed by John Reich. The obverse design featured a profile bust of Lady Liberty wearing a cap, known as the Freedom Cap, a symbol used in the Revolutionary War. Inscribed on the headband of the cap is the word Liberty. The reverse displays the Eagle with a shield at its breast holding arrows and an olive branch. Above the Eagle’s head is the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. At the base of the reverse is 10 C. representing the first time the denomination was inscribed on the ten cent piece.
